Waiting to be Shoved by TomRedlion Waiting to be Shoved by TomRedlion
BN caboose #12386 has been coupled to the end of a string of cars including an increasingly rare boxcar. All of the side windows except the ones in the cupola have been plated over. the words "Riding Platform" have been stenciled on the ends. This caboose is no longer the normal final car of a freight train. Now it is merely a reasonably safe place for the conductor to ride while the engineer runs the locomotives in "push mode" while the conductor watches for trouble from the leading end of a train that is, in fact, running backward.

Haven't seen one of these BN in close to 20 years. I catch the ATSF ones a lot.

Heh, I saw one being pushed around not too long ago myself, probably being used for the same thing.
