Tracks in the Woods by TomRedlion Tracks in the Woods by TomRedlion
Milwaukee Road line leading to Morton.
Taken from the trailing end doorway of a routine Mt. Rainier Scenic RR Divide/Trestle turn.
A few miles further south, the tracks were washed out by a flood event in 2006 or so. When this picture was taken, the tracks leading to this spot were in fairly good condition. In more recent years, the condition of the tracks has deteriorated.
See also for the same scene a few years later, with more vegetation and in higher resolution.

Really wish I had known you while I was in WA. I'd be out taking my son walking these kinda places every day.

did they ever fix the flood damage?

No. Over a quarter mile of track has been washed out on one particular curve. Replacing the fill would cost huge money. Money that Mount Rainier Scenic would never be able to raise. Money that Tacoma Rail would never be able to justify investing, since there is only one sawmill at the end of the line in Morton, and it never originated a ton of traffic to begin with.

Not to mention the environmental people would have an absolute conniption fit if they were to start dropping boulders into the river.

Similar things occurred to me as I stood in the vestibule.
