Description

Mt. Rainier Scenic RR's Hammond Lumber #17 ready for a run in Aug 2009.
Specs: 2-8-2T Alco 1929
It was left abandoned in the northern California woods by Hammond when the rail line leading to its location was taken out by a major fire. It was eventually dismantled and hauled out piece by piece by a new owner and reassembled for a tourist op decades later. It now lives at MRSRR's shop in Mineral, WA. More info on this train ride can be found at MRSR.com.
I think it has a sister somewhere in California, and I know it has a sister locomotive elsewhere in Southwestern Washington State on the Chelatchie Prairie RR.
As of summer 2012, this loco was in the shop for a Federally mandated 1750 day boiler overhaul work. It should be running again in 2013.
One source of videos featuring the MRSR and its fleet of historic steam locomotives (including this one) is Golden Rail Video.

Richard Hammond bought a locomotive?!? I'm expecting James May has an A4!
