S-10 With Hood

Description

A random Chevy S-10 extended cab truck parked on the streets of my hometown. Back in the day, that large cowl induction bulge in the hood might have served a purpose. Supplying cool, fresh air to the carbureted intake. Modern vehicles like this are fuel injected. Fuel injected vehicles keep their air filters and intake boxes in a front corner of the engine bay. Don't try to tell me that that monster hood adds to the cooling systems performance in any appreciable way. With this truck's body on frame configuration, simply allowing the hot air from the radiator to flow around the engine and under the vehicle has been sufficient for many decades. Fuel injected vehicles like this get intake air improvements by placing the source of the air the engine breathes someplace where it has unlimited access to unlimited amounts of cool fresh air. A duct that leads in from the grille will suffice if it's big enough.
For this little thing, that hood is just an unnecessary visual enhancement.

Not all modern vehicles are still fuel injected. Also older S-10's were carbureted, like my 84. Plus many high mileage trucks get larger displacement, high performance engines put in them. And 'body on frame configuration' has nothing to do with 'the cooling systems performance'. That hood isn't just for dual quad tunnel ram intakes, but for the look of lowered in the front, larger tires in the rear, and many other custom truck styles. Just so you know.  Doh!
