Gerenuks

A native of African savannahs, the graceful gerenuk (GARE-ah-nook) high on its hind legs to reach food in trees. it carefully selects the most tender leaves while stepping sideways around trees and bushes. Stretching its neck upward, it resembles a giraffe. In fact, gerenuk means "giraffe-neck" in Somali. And like giraffes, gerenuks feast on foods other animals can't reach.
To protect the trees, workers at the Denver Zoo have wrapped the trunks of the trees in the gerenuks' enclosure in mesh.
