Frankenstein Unit AKA the SWeeP!

Description

This locomotive is being built at Progress Rail's Tacoma Tide Flats Facility near Fife, WA. The frame and trucks (they're hidden by the container cars) appear to be from an EMD SW1000 or SW1500. The cab, well I think it came from an old end-cab switcher, I'm not sure, and I couldn't get a good shot of it. The hood is clearly from an old EMD GP7 or GP9. A pair of employees were standing near the fence and joked about this thing for a bit, but they had work to do.
I just call this kitbashed thing a Frankenloco.

[EDIT]: I've got it! After a few months of thinking about this unit, I've come up with its nickname: SWeeP. The frame and trucks came from an EMD SW1000/1500 series, the body came from a 1st generation GeeP. So... We can't call it a BeeP. The BeeP was a one-off SF loco that started life as a Baldwin switcher that acquired EMD engine and body parts during a major rebuild effort at Santa Fe's Cleburn, TX. shops. This unit is all EMD. Sooo....

An electronic model of this unit has been written for the Trainz railroad simulator by LordDragonEye.  Take a look: DPR Yard Swicher by LordDragonEye .

[[ 2nd EDIT! ]] 914four gave me some great info on this unit.

So this is an ex-CN GS-413b (aka SW1200RM). 7106, né CN GR-12h (SW1200RS) 1257, was rebuilt in 1987 at Pointe St-Charles shops in Montreal. The rebuild included replacing the hood, generator, cooling fans and traction motor blowers with those from old GP9 units, but that's it's original cab. At least eight units, 7100-7107 were rebuilt like this; sometimes called a SWEEP (from the combination of SW and GP), 7106 was retired on the 29th of February 2000, and sold to Canac that same year.

This is sort of what they would have looked like before the rebuild:

A lot of CN's SW1200 were either retired or rebuilt in the 1984-1987 timeframe. CN also had the GS-412a series, also SW1200RMs, but without the wild body mods. Wanna see something really weird? Look up CN class MR-14a, aka MLW RSC-24; picture an Alco S-2 with six-wheel trucks... [[ / 2nd Edit ]]

Cool, huh?

Oh my gosh, the O-27 scale RMT "BEEP" has a real world prototype!
