Draw bridge over the Columbia River. This is the Oregon Trunk Line bridge aka the Celilo Falls bridge. It was built by J. J. Hill's Great Northern to connect the Spokane, Portland and Seattle RR at Wishram, WA., (just across the river from here) with the Oregon interior, and eventually, California. The current owner, BNSF doesn't use this line as much as it used to.
The lift span is still operational, but the swing span looks to have been superseded decades ago.
The construction of The Dalles Dam a few miles downstream flooded the waterfalls and rapids which the local Indian tribes once used to catch salmon migrating upstream.
